It has been an exciting time at Casa De Grasso as of late as Sarah and I prepare to become parents…We are so proud to announce that we are expecting a baby girl to join our family soon and wanted to share a little about our experience and the artwork we created to share this news with the world. Because as photographers of course we can’t just post a regular announcement to Facebook . I often post sneak peaks of favorite images by taking a picture on my phone of the back of the camera so I thought that would be a cute way to tell the world and tie something in about ourselves. I liked how it still had a little bit of surprise in the announcement. I could not believe how much love and congratulations we got from posting that and it has made the experience even more enjoyable for us. Having family far apart meant it took a while for me to have the chance to tell my family in person which was so worth it, but it also meant basically 2 days later we got to do a gender reveal.

I wanted to make something beautiful to celebrate the new mother in my life so I had planned on taking some portraits of her along the way. Then when we found out the gender I had the idea of tying pink in to a portrait of her and that could be how we could make the gender reveal. I used a MagMod grid spot and gel to create a pink circle halo around Sarah’s belly and then a light strip softbox to just light Sarah. We found out in the evening and our friends and family were clamoring all day with excitement for us to tell them if we were expecting a boy or girl so we had to work quick to not keep them waiting too long. I’m glad we were able to rush and make something beautiful of my wife that I can cherish.

We decided to start our family over a year ago and as it took us a while to have success I would flip flop at how commited to the idea I was. It’s scary to think of how I could balance my ambitions with being a good dad. But as soon as Sarah told me she was pregnant I was thrilled and have been so excited ever since. This has been one of the happiest times of my life  and I can’t wait to see what comes. Seeing my baby dance on the ultrasound and realizing I was going to have a daddy’s girl brought me to tears of joy. How much closer this has brought me to my wife has also been a happy surprise. I can’t stop looking at her and thinking about how much more beautiful she looks everyday even as she complains she is getting “fat”.

Baby announcement

I’m a sentimental guy which is what I love about photography. I get to give the gift of cherished memories to families. And while I love being creative it’s seeing clients smile when they relive those moments that really makes this fulfilling to me. I so can’t wait to see what memories my wife, my baby, and I will make together. Stay tuned as I’m sure I will share a few.
